A Piqua family is celebrating the holiday season in their very own home, thanks to a partnership between Habitat for Humanity and Clopay Corporation, North America’s leading residential and commercial garage door manufacturer.

First-time homeowners Amanda Wion and Nicole (Nikki) Williams, and their blended family of four children, were at the house today for the dedication and key ceremony along with Clopay Corporation President Victor Weldon, local Habitat for Humanity Executive Director Scott Barr, Piqua Vice Mayor and Ward 1 Commissioner Jim Vetter, Volunteer Construction Supervisor Bart Denlinger, Miami County Commissioner Wade Westfall and Associate Pastor Eileen Hix from Sidney First Methodist Church. Kathy Sherman from the Piqua Chamber of Commerce presented the dedication ribbon for the ceremony.

Wion and Williams are excited to be spending Christmas in their new home. “Having a home means so much more because we were part of building it,” said Wion. “Our kids have seen the hard work, and that makes it even more meaningful for them. We’re looking forward to raising our family in a safe, healthy environment in the new year.”

As part of the Habitat program, the couple earned 400 hours of sweat equity required for eligibility and assumed a 20-year, no-interest mortgage.

Clopay provided $150,000 in sponsorship funding for the build and donated an American-made Clopay garage door manufactured at its facility in Troy, Ohio. This is the third house Clopay has sponsored in the last four years for the Habitat for Humanity of Miami & Shelby Counties, Ohio, with the first two builds completed in Sidney, Ohio.  A number of Clopay sister brands also donated products including ClosetMaid closets, Hunter fans and Ames garden tools.

“Our partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Miami & Shelby Counties reflects our commitment to giving back to the communities where we work and live,” said Victor Weldon, President of Clopay Corporation. “As a building products company, we are proud to support this project by contributing financially, donating our products, and having our Troy employees volunteer to install the garage door.  It’s a privilege to help create stronger, more vibrant communities.”

“This is the first home build in Piqua in several years, and the community has been incredibly welcoming,” said Scott Barr, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Miami & Shelby Counties. “Clopay’s ongoing support – both financially and through product donations – has been instrumental in making this home a reality. With over 1,600 employees in our region, Clopay has been a fantastic corporate partner, and we’re grateful for their continued commitment to helping local families and strengthening our community.”
